39th Conference of Latin American Geography

Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, January 6-9, 2026

We are thrilled to announce the preliminary details for the 39th CLAG to be held at the Centro Universitario de la Costa – Universidad de Guadalajara (CUCOSTA) in Puerto Vallarta from January 6-9, 2026 (google map).


Tentative Agenda (subject to change):

Tuesday January 6th

  • 6:00 pm – Evening Reception

Wednesday January 7th

  • 9:00 am to 6:00 pm – Concurrent Sessions

Thursday January 8th

  • 7:30 am – CLAG Board Meeting
  • 9:00 am to 6:00 pm – Concurrent Sessions
  • 6:30 pm – Evening Banquet

Friday January 9th

  • 9:00 am to 1pm – Concurrent Sessions
  • TBD – Afternoon Field Trip

Saturday January 10th

  • TBD – Field Trips
    Additional field trips will be scheduled for January 10 2026. Field trip details coming soon … stay tuned.

REGISTRATION:

We prefer participants to be a member of CLAG but non-members may also attend at a higher registration rate. Membership is only $70 for professionals and $20 for students (who are then eligible for grants and awards and may have digital access to JLAG). A discount is offered to those in the ‘Global South’ who are currently based in institutions or are independent scholars in Latin America or the Caribbean.

Registration includes:

  • Welcome Reception
  • Wednesday and Thursday lunch
  • Four refreshment breaks
  • Shuttle service between hotels and venue

The deadline for early-bird registration rates is Friday 10/17/2025.

Regular registration closes on 11/17/2025. All presenters must pay registration fees by 11/17 to have their paper/poster included in the program.

ORGANIZE A SESSION:

If you want to organize a session, please use the CLAG listserve to make calls for papers. Once you have a complete session (five papers total, or four papers and a discussant) please submit your session proposal using this google form. Encourage your session participants to submit their abstracts as instructed here.
